About the Author
R. A. Schwaller de Lubicz (1887-1961) was one of the most important philosophers, mathematicians, and Egyptologists of this century. His elucidation of the temple at Luxor and his presentation of the Egyptian understanding of a special quality of innate consciousness form a bridge that links the sacred science of the Ancients to its rediscovery in our own time.

Alchemical Opus of RA Schwaller de Lubicz

Many academics will point to "Temple In Man" as R.A. Schwaller de Lubicz's crowning achievement. I humbly, and totally, disagree. As academically pleasing (detailed and bordering on pedantic) "Temple In Man" is, "Sacred Science" is clearly his alchemical opus. He sweeps aside our modern (then maturing and fully accepted) ideas about evolution using the Egyptian tradition, then proceeds to untangle the Egyptian mythology as it embeds the true principles of human spiritual evolution. Unknown - apparently even to R. A. - the Egyptian records and mythos had encoded information considered so sacred (and therefore, secret) in their day, that the actual truth was never uttered. Even RA did not know what he'd stumbled on to. I'll leave this re-discovery up to the reader, but suffice it to say that this work is a masterpiece of transliteration, and should be required reading for anyone seriously interested in deciphering the hidden occult alchemical-astrological-spiritual lexicon of the ancient religions of the past. This knowledge was apparently only fully recorded in the Egyptian mythos and hieroglyphs, and only a man as broadly trained in modern critical scientific analysis, as well as intuitive alchemical reductionism, and as fully in possession of the "intelligence of the heart" as R. A. Schwaller de Lubicz was, could have re-discovered that which so very many utterly missed. An absolute must read, Sacred Science is a literary equivalent of prima materia.

Scwaller is a Sage

Having spent over 30 years in Egypt studying the ancient monuments and symbols, and living the culture, this book is better researched than any similar publication. Schwaller provides an exceptionally insightful look into the minds and hearts of the ancient Egyptians. He reveals a way of life that is so integrated with the cosmos and centered on the inner journey of enlightenment few Egyptologists will understand it unless they too practice the esoteric science of personal transformation.

It is only in the present, relatively materialistic age, that we separate science and the sacred as foreign to one another - but the ancient Egyptians and Schwaller knew a deeper harmony. For anyone that is seeking to understand the mindset of long lost higher cultures Sacred Science is a key resource.

This is a short jog into Rene's greater work Le Temple d'Homme. Sacred Science is a guide to the metaphysical world harnessed by the pharaoh. One will quickly agree with the well recorded research and analysis expertly layed out in this work. This book casts shadows on other books released about Egyptain Theocracy. This book traces the origin of Heliocentricity much farther back then Capernicus and sites the Pythagorian understanding behind the Cathlic "Heretics" of the middle ages. And consequently traces Pythagoros back to his roots, his training by the priests of the temples in Egypt for 15 years! This Book is filled with amazing revelations is dry and techincal, possibly aimed at the acedemic community, but If you enjoy Ancient History, Cause and Effect, Ancient Egypt or Greece, mythology or are a skeptic you will love this book.

A straightforward introduction to the craft and art of keeping and managing beehives for honey

University of Florida Extension Beekeeping Specialist Malcolm T. Sanford has combined his expertise with the late Richard E. Bonney's foundational "Beekeeping and Hive Management" instructional to create Storey's Guide to Keeping Honey Bees, a straightforward introduction to the craft and art of keeping and managing beehives for honey. Although intended especially to help neophytes get up to speed, Storey's Guide to Keeping Honey Bees is solid and thorough enough to offer plenty of tips, tricks, and techniques that long-time veterans will appreciate. Chapters address the necessary preparatory steps (from researching local community laws about bees to acquiring and learning how to use protective equipment to keeping emergency remedies for bee stings on hand and more), how to install a colony (two colonies are recommended for beginners, in case one colony suffers disaster), prevent diseases, harvest honey crops, and much more. "In rural areas, ensure that livestock are not located nearby (some tend to use beehives as scratching posts). Horses are a particular problem. Their odor seems to offend bees, and when stinging starts, horses often react violently and can injure themselves."

A dull and lacking narrative

This was a very poor representation of what beekeeping is actually like and in many cases he gives the worst possible solutions on how to fix common problems in the hives. An example of how useless this book is, is the question "how much honey should i leave on a hive during winter?" the author's response was "what do you think they need?" Many other problems are approached by either reasking the question or are just a new question in and of themselves. I would not even recommend this book to a novice as even simple tasks are not fully explained. Also the random quotes and filler are not only distracting but boring and uninformative. This book needs some serious revision or to be pulled off the shelves.

As a follow up to a comment left I recommend "the beekeeper a handbook" by Diana Sammataro and Alphonse Avitabile, it's great for beginners but also has good information for mid level beekeepers too.

Good overall, but lacking in a couple areas

First, don't expect to find a single book out there that will walk you through every single bee keeping process step by step. That said, this is certainly a valuable addition to your library of books on the topic.

One thing I did like is that the author recognizes that there are many different approaches to every aspect of keeping bees, and he does not say that one is right and the rest are wrong. disorganized mess

While the author has a huge amount of knowledge on the subject matter he clearly has no idea how to create a textbook that flow seemlessly from one topic to the next. I spent all semester jumping back and forth between subjects and topics. The case studies are dull and dry, and for the most part outdated.

It's a good start

I bought the Kindle version of this book for a class that I am taking as part of my masters degree. It has a lot of features that I like such as being able to search and add easy to find notes. The thing that I don't like about it is that the Kindle version does not have everything that the hard copy does. The Kindle version also doesn't have page numbers. When the professor references a certain page in an assignment, it makes it very difficult to know if I am referencing the right material. For the most part I like using a Kindle version but they need to do a better job to make sure that everything is included from the original version.

As far as the actual content of the book is concerned, it is fairly informative. I think the author could do a better job explaining some topics. A lot of the phrasing could be reworded to make the book easier to read.

Good if You Can Suffer Through

Just finished a class taught from this book and I did NOT love trying to learn from it! Ettlie knows TONS but can't seem to organize his thoughts or stay on topic! Clue: he does repeat the same thoughts throughout the book so occasionally you can use later passages to decipher others. He even has two sections by the same name in one chapter - I am not kidding! I don't even think his editor could make it through this one. Lots of great ideas in there but plan many hours reading every single reference to try to figure out his points. That is IF you can find the references, some are quite old and many are flat WRONG, or not completely identified, especially in Chapter 9. Sadly, his reviews as a prof sound about the same. Smart guy but proceed with caution!

Falling Back Into High School

In the fall of 1979 Cameron Crowe did something that many would describe as crazy. At 22 years of age he walked into the office of Principal William Gray's office and asked permission to attend classes for the full length of the school year to research a book he was to write of his experiences inside the walls of Ridgemont High in Redondo Beach, California. The sights, the sounds and even the smells of a High School of the late seventies are described within the covers of this most excellent document of being a teenaged wasteland of thirty years past.

The author walked the halls in a proper uniform of tennis shoes, jeans, t-shirt and backpack and blended in as best that he could while he transcribed everything and everyone around him. In this book you will discover: Brad Hamilton, the guy would takes pride in his fries, Damone, who has already mastered" "The Attitude" Mark Ratner, still hoping to nix the tie, Stacy Hamilton, listening to every pearl of wisdom about sex that Linda Barrett would describe in the lunch room while 15 year old boys observed from the un-cool tables and gazed at still-developing, female-type chests with big wide eyes of teenaged lust. And then, at last we arrive at Mister Hand's classroom where Jeff Spicoli is looking at a history textbook drawing cartoons with bloodshot eyes trying to figure out if this Thomas Jefferson dude was cool or extremely bogus.

What makes this book and the movie that followed it as the classic American story of teenagers coping with life as teenagers in a world they didn't create is that this ain't: "Leave it to Beaver" or: "The Brady Bunch." This is the truth about what you gotta put up with when you are pimply-faced loser to the rest of the world and the kid that cannot score tickets for the Zeppelin concert at The Forum next month. This is the day-by-day journal of horny and wasted semi-adults who don't have a clue of what their future holds before them. This book is an accurate account of what music makes sense and which car you gotta drive to take a girl (a real one, not an inflatable one!) up to the point to have any chance to score.

There are many more stories found inside this book than the ones that made it onto the script of the very popular and most excellent film that followed this most fantastic book. Ridgemont ROCKS!!! And this is an outstanding document of what went down there.

Yeah, it works.

A few things, yes this should be reissued. No, the edition I'm reading came from the library. I've no idea if there is any appreciable difference.
My only exposure to 'Fast Time...' had come primarily through the 1982 film. Loved it. Raucous with heart- a mix that is often attempted but more often failed, but the movie managed to do that. So I went looking for the book. Only to not find it on amazon or bn or Borders. OK. Check again. Nope. A few years later. Nothing. Now, about ten years after I first saw the movie, I decided to get the book out of the local library. And I'm glad I did.
If the book can be remembered for anything, it will be because the reader can read a part here or there and remember something like that. The uncertainty, the false bravado, the awkward search for conversation, a misread gesture. All the hallmarks of growing up and trying to relate to your peers. It's a book that only a few hundred actually experienced (Mr. Crowe and his classmates), but everyone that has ever attended an American high school will feel a high degree of familiarity with ("Well, no it didn't happen exactly like that...").
Mr. Crowe is smart enough to keep his cast small and focused on certain aspects of their lives. As a reader, I thank him for this as our desire to get a little more under the skin of the experience is always rewarded. My only misgiving is that, 28 years after the events described, the story isn't complete.
As stated, a re-issue would be invaluable. The ideal re-issue would include annotations to the real areas described (Ridgemont is really Clairemont, Lincoln HS is probably Madison HS, the Strand is in Ocean Beach, the Charthouse is in Seaport Village, Marine World is Sea World, I've no idea if the Regal Theater is really the MAnn Sports Arena, etc) and a follow-up feature on where the real life counterparts of Stacy, Brad, Jeff and such ended up. The lack of these does not detract from the story, but the passing of time has created this desire.

Worth Tracking Down

I was in high school myself when the movie came out. The dollar theater Friday and Saturday night showings became THE place to be and be seen and the gathering point for our own late night adventures. We howled at the screen, drooled at the nudity, laughed at Spicoli, and threw our empty beer cans at Mr. Hand. Then the movie was gone and started the inevitable dissipation from our consciousness. But suddenly, a few years later, those of us who thought about it were astonished by how many excellent movie stars used this teen party flick as a launching pad. Then the movie was revisited and reconsidered, surprisingly standing up very well to the test of time. Then some more years passed. It started to come to light that the movie spawned from a book. OK, that's not so unusual. That may be worth picking up at some point, if I see it. More comes to light. It was actually written by Cameron Crowe. No kidding, wow, he's really talented, that's interesting. Actually it's non-fiction and he went undercover for a year and researched it at a real high school. Holy smoke! Now, I had to read it. Except it's out of print and stolen from practically every library in America. A hundred bucks on Amazon. Good grief! Finally, a couple years after that I see a copy for $35 and I snag it. Man, that's about the most build up for a book I can remember. Time to dig in. Can it live up to expectations? It blows them out of the water. It was one of the most beautifully nostalgic experiences to ever come to me from a work of art. The sex was just as sexy. The jokes were funnier. Spicoli was realer. Mr. hand was smarter. And Stacy's abortion was much more brutal. As Crowe took me through the year, it was that same melancholy feeling of loss as when you were actually experiencing the magic of youth slipping through your fingers while at the same time loving every second of it.
