Sexy times

So, it's back to Hunter and Livy. I love these two. I like most of the secondary characters as well. And I have always had great love for an office romance, even if this one didn't start out in any sort of conventional way.

Hunter Carlisle has issues. We didn't really get into them in Yes, Please. In this chapter of Hunter and Livy's story, we get some insight into what the deal is with him. We've seen throughout the story so far, Livy trying to get in there. Being patient, while also not taking most of his guff. I love Livy. She's a strong character. Life has kind of beat her down a bit, but she never gives up. Hunter, he's kind of contradictory...for lack of a better word. Sometimes he's all business, take control. He's a big shot, running a large company, so you know he has to be smart and savvy. Then, when it comes to certain things in his life, I feel like he's allowing himself to be pushed around. For what? I'm not sure I completely understand yet. I'm sure it's coming, I just have to be patient. FYI, there is a bit more sexy times in Now, Please than there was in Yes, Please. There was one instance in this part of the story, where I felt that Livy should have made something a little less easy for Hunter, but you'll have to read it yourself and find out what I mean.

I can't wait to see what happens next. I'm hoping Hunter can finally be rid of the bad things he still allows to have part in his life. Maybe Livy can teach him a little something about that.

An Awesome Read!

I loved reading Now, Please (Please Series Book 2), all about Hunter Carlisle the gorgeous CEO & Olivia the twenty-two year old girl who now works for me & only signed one contract. Hunter took one look at Olivia and he knew he just had to have her, however she signed his employment contract but refused his personal contract and said no I don't want to work for you. Needless to say Hunter was stunned, so he changed the rule and said Olivia could work for him for one month and then they would revisit the two contracts after the month was up. The author wrote an incredible story, and the characters absolutely made the story come to life! In book one Olivia gets a one month shot at this admin position. In book two she's still working for Hunter and still only signed the employee contract, and they are flying by the seat of their pants over the personal issue! Read this series it will make you laugh, sigh, shake your head and cum up a storm! Read about Hunter & Olivia and fall in love with the both of them. Olivia is a normal run of the mill girl who loves her jeans & hoodies, and since meeting Hunter she has had to change her entire wardrobe! Follow these two and check out their adventures! I can't wait for book three!

I loved Yes, Please but Now, Please blew me away! There were so many unexpected twists and turns. I love the portrayal of the main character Livvy, and the way that she stuck to her roots in situations that she may have very easily changed just to fit in. I read this book in one day, because I couldn’t put it down. After reading the teaser for the third book, I think this series will be a huge hit for Summers!

Realistic, typical look at Derm, rather than worst case scenario!

This is by far the best Derm book I've seen. I'm personally a WHNP, so I think this book covers more of what I see in better detail than some of the others. I really like the care plans included for specific issues with multiple steps and algorithms covered. I have a few others that were recommended by dermatologists to me, but this one just fits my thinking and practice style better. Even if I think a pt problem may be something else, I can usually find the right diagnosis just by going to my initial differential and then nearby, I'll find the correct diagnosis staring me in the face. This book is laid out well with realistic pictures, not worse-case-scenario. So many books give you the worst case they've ever seen, but this is more the typical case picture you'll see. Really appreciate this book!

Healthy Mom: an easy to understand guide to nutrition

Everywhere you look nowadays it seems like someone is offering advice on nutrition and it is hard to separate the fact from the hype. You hear things like 'high protein' or 'low carb'...or terms like organic and natural. Not to mention that trying to analyze the ingredient list on your package of food seems to require a degree in chemistry! Iva Young's book Healthy Mom is a down to earth, easy to comprehend guide to understanding nutrition and what the human body actually DOES with it.

I really liked the 16 tips the author gives on how to make sure your child develops healthy eating habits. Simple guidelines like leading by example, setting a schedule, and getting kids involved in food preparation. There is no way we are going to conquer the childhood obesity epidemic if we don't start following these recommendations!

I found it interesting that the author not only includes nutrition information but also discusses how our bodies actually USE those nutrients. Helping people gain a greater understanding of human physiology is a great way to get us to change our current diets.

The chapters in this book are all clearly labeled and are kept brief and very focused on the topic. The writing is simple to understand and you don't have to be a nutrition major to figure out what is being said.

I really loved that the author included information on artificial and natural sweeteners. Personally, I am against any artificial sweeteners at all but, as the author states, the FDA has recognized them as safe in certain levels. I have to disagree with them but the author does a good job of remaining neutral on this topic.

There is a nice discussion on organic foods and Ms. Young recommends moderation if necessary to help control cost. Organic is a method for producing food...it is not a health claim! I did disagree with one sentence in the book that stated you could believe the product was organic if it said so on the label. There are often a lot of false claims and I like to see the USDA organic seal, personally. Or, meet the farmer who grew the food!

Remaining topics in the book include things like whole grains, reducing salt intake, fruits and vegetables, etc. The last half of the book is reserved for shopping lists, meal plans, and recipes. I didn't find this section all that helpful since I refuse to measure, count calories, or use structured diet plans. I prefer the method of 'eat healthy foods when you are hungry' method of dieting, myself, although others may like a more structured program.

All in all, a very helpful book that is laid out in such a way as to make it easy to understand. A detailed look at nutrients in our food, how to make sure we eat a balanced diet, and a reminder to avoid the 'hype' of the next great diet plan and just use common sense!

Makes you "want" to make changes

I have a few friends that are amazingly healthy cooks. Everything in their homes and kitchens are "organic", "100% ..."whatever....you will not find junk or processed food in the pantries regardless of when you show up.
But I think that most of the world is a bit more like me. We'd love to eat healthy, we'd love to make better shopping decisions and create healthier more nutritious meals for our families but we get a little overwhelmed at all the information and choices about nutrition that we find staring us in the face.
Thankfully Iva Young has created a book that is easy to ready, easy to understand and easy to follow.
This is not a book where you will read it from cover to cover rather this is more of a reference book that you will keep in your kitchen or book shelf for a very long time.
Starting with the basic information of "understanding your digestive system" to the joy of "recipes" you'll find facts that will inspire you and educate you to do "better" for your family.
Here are a few of the simple steps that make this book special. There are a few more but I chose my favorites to share with you.
* Facts based on scientific literature
* Tips on how to read labels
* Top 10 lists for fruits and vegetables with tips on how to cook them
* Shopping lists with brand name foods
* Lists of herbs with their benefits and how to use them
One of my favorite things about this book is Iva's reference to Romans 12:2 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
While I have never applied this verse to my eating lifestyle...it truly made me think...perhaps it is time to do so.

Wow, this book is amazing!!!! From the given costco shopping lists to the nutrition charts to the easy planned recipes, your diet plan is done. It eliminates the guess work and even though the title of the book is "Healthy Mom", it can help anyone. I've read many books and tried many diets, but the key to loosing or maintaining weight is balancing your nutrients and Iva Young doesn't just tell you to eat well, she does an amazing job at explaining why it's important and why it really works. After trying Young's eating plan, I not only feel more energetic, but I lost 10 pounds in my first week of dieting just by changing the food I ate. With other diets you may loose weight, but you're not healthy and the weight will come back. However, Young teaches us that when we eat right, we get the best of both worlds. This book gives you the knowledge to make good choices and helps you develop good eating habits for life. This is why I believe that this book is amazing and everyone should own it.

Reading this abridgment of his own work, the Zen priest's soft, serene voice is pleasing to the ear; the pace is unhurried, allowing the listener to grasp the material. Steve Hagen is a Zen priest, a long-time teacher of Buddhism, and the author of How the World Can Be the Way It Is. For fifteen years he studied with Zen Master Dainin Katagiri, from whom he received Dharma Transmission (endorsement to teach) in 1989. Steve lives in Minneapolis and teaches at Dharma Field Meditation and Learning Center in St. Paul.

One of Those Rare Books

Over the last fifteen years, a growing number of books have shown up in trade paperbackland on the subject of Buddhism. More seem to arrive daily, invited or not. Most of them are aimed at the general reader and beginning buddhist. This makes it progressively more difficult to sort out the superlative from the merely satisfactory.
Of all that I've read [and I've read them all] "Buddhism: Plain and Simple" stands out from the rest. Steve Hagen succeeds in one of the hardest tasks in writing: being straightforward without being dull; being concise without seeming frugal. No essential point of Buddhism is left uncovered, yet the author never pontificates or short-changes the reader.
The book is a gem of both inspiration and practicality. It takes a subject that often seems far too idealistic and places it at a level that resonates with the daily Western experience of life. It is a "quick read" without ever coming off as "Buddhism For Dummies." All this and at a price that will make it a convenient and affordable present for all those friends that have so often asked us, "what the heck is Buddhism?"
Find it, read it and buy another copy for someone you love. Better yet, give it to someone you don't love. It might just change their life.

The best book to get started in Buddhism

"~I am a newcomer to Buddhism, but when I get a hankering to learn about any subject, I read about it voraciously. This has been almost counter-productive in studying Buddhism since, as Hagen stresses, no words can really describe the reality we seek. In fact, I have read several books about Buddhism, Zen, and the like; but I own just two: Buddhism Plain and Simple, and Peace is Every Step by Thich Nhat Hanh. By far, Hagen's book is my favorite.
the wrong reasons -- to control my emotions, to sort out moral dilemmas, and to find peace of mind. Through Buddhism, I've made great progress in all those areas by simply eliminating them as goals and just experiencing life moment by moment. This may sound odd if you haven't practiced Buddhism, but you will quickly appreciate this lesson after reading Hagen's book. You will discover that the practice of Buddhism does not involve traveling to the Himalayas or meditating in the forest. You will learn that you don't have to abandon your religion or your friends or your job. The word Buddhism stems from the Sanskrit word for Buddha, the awakened one. Buddhism is simply the path of awakening. This book is a wonderful guide on that path. You will not be the same after reading it.

The buddha-dharma

The best little book on Buddhism that is available. Masterfully written. This book needs to be studied, not just read. It is worthwhile to read again and again.  If you only read one book on Buddhism, then this is the one to read. The author is an American Zen teacher whose clarity of explanation will appeal to the American Zen student.
Steve Hagen prefers to call Buddhism "the buddha-dharma." He states that "It's a process, an awareness, an openness, a spirit of inquiry -- not a belief system, or even (as we normally understand it) a religion. It is more accurate to call it 'the teaching of the awakened,' or the buddha-dharma."
We start by learning the four truths: (1) life involves suffering; (2) this suffering arises within us; (3) we can end the most profound and existential forms of suffering; and (4) the way we end this suffering is by following the eightfold path. The existential angst we experience from the unanswered question of what life is about is at the heart of our suffering. The buddha-dharma is like a journey. By following the middle way we can reach enlightenment and nirvana.
There are three kinds of suffering, or duhkha: (1) pain, both physical and mental; (2) change; and (3) being. Our goal is to just see. We must awaken from our confusion. We need to see reality for what it is.
The eightfold path is a concrete way for us to practice bringing about the cessation of duhkha. The eight aspects of this path are right view, right intention, right speech, right action , right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right meditation.
Nothing in this book is offered as something you are to believe. Somehow through his life of contemplation the Buddha was able to formulate these notions. They are simply a guide. The Buddha can only point the way. It is left for each one of us to find the way for ourselves.
